Situated on the lovely Schuylkill River on land originally owned by Quaker merchant Isaac Norris, Norristown was named the county seat of Montgomery County in 1784. It was incorporated as a borough in 1812 and saw a significant industrial boom throughout the 1800s and early 1900s.
