What is heating oil?

Heating oil is one type of fuel oil that’s specifically used in boilers or furnaces to heat homes. If your home’s system uses No. 2 heating oil, then you already know that involves storing the oil in a tank on your property and having it replenished when it gets low.

But did you know there are different types of heating oil? Here at Oehlert Brothers, we’re committed to offering homeowners in Pottstown and throughout eastern Pennsylvania the option of heating their homes with ecofriendly Bioheat Plus® heating oil.

What is Bioheat Plus heating oil?

As an ideal alternative to conventional No. 2 heating oil, Bioheat fuels are made by blending ultra-low sulfur heating oil with biodiesel — a renewable fuel made from fatty acids found in soybean oil, used cooking oil, inedible corn oil and other types of recycled oils.

Bioheat fuels are labeled based on the percentage of biodiesel they contain. For example, B2-B5 Bioheat fuel contains between 2% and 5% biodiesel, whereas Bioheat Plus heating oil (B5-B20) contains between 5% and 20% biodiesel. We’ve actually been producing our own Bioheat Plus heating oil blend with refined soybean oil for 17 years!
