Off-site vs. On-site Fleet Fueling
Know what options there are for fueling your vehicles
If your Eastern Pennsylvania business involves a commercial fleet of vehicles, understanding your fleet fueling options is not only smart, but also it is incredibly important. If you don’t fully understand what’s out there you may end up spending an unnecessary amount of money and not operating as efficiently as possible. What business owner wants that?
Oehlert Brothers is here to help breakdown what the fleet fueling options are so that you can make the best decision possible for your local business.
How to choose your fleet fueling method
Your decision regarding how to fuel your company’s fleet of vehicles should take a few factors into account including:
- The size of your vehicle fleet
- Type and usage patterns of your fleet
- The needs of your business
- Where your vehicles are driving to
- What type of fuel your vehicles are using
The different fleet fueling options
Sure, there is always the option of fueling your fleet vehicles at your traditional retail gas station. However, this is typically a more expensive way to go and, therefore, not what we recommend. So here are two alternatives that Oehlert Brothers offers when it comes to fleet fueling:
- Off-site fleet fueling: We recommend this option for smaller fleets that consist mostly of on-road vehicles. With off-site fueling you bring your vehicles to one of our stations to re-fuel. The prices at these stations are typically lower than prices at your standard gas station and the fuel is better quality than what you find at discount stations. Those enrolled in this option have 24/7 access to over 130 fueling sites.
- On-site fleet fueling: If you go with this option (also referred to as bulk fueling), Oehlert Brothers will set up a small fueling station right at your own worksite. We will then make sure you have enough fuel supplies available at all times. Companies with larger vehicle fleets and the space for a fueling station can really benefit from this option!
Ways to cut down on fleet fueling costs
No matter which fleet fueling option you choose, there are ways that you and your drivers can help your company’s bottom line by reducing fleet fueling costs. Here are some tips:
- Make sure your drivers are following gentle acceleration and braking techniques, avoiding driving during rush hour whenever possible and not leaving their vehicles running when they are in use.
- Properly and regularly maintain your vehicles.
- Utilize the software and systems that are out there that can monitor driver behavior, track fuel consumption and help you optimize driving routes.
-
Fuel is usually cheaper to purchase in bulk so opt for purchasing your gas, diesel fuel and biodiesel this way when you can.
- Overloading vehicles can increase the amount of fuel you have to use to travel so avoid doing this whenever possible.
