Known for its charm and hospitality, Collegeville is a walking-friendly community that offers access to the Perkiomen Trail and opportunities for recreation in the Community Park, Hunsberger Woods and Waterworks Park, which is on the border of the borough of Trappe. Considered one of the safest communities not just in Montgomery County but in the whole state of Pennsylvania, Collegeville was originally purchased by William Penn, in 1694. Ursinus College was founded there in 1869, with its first students graduating in 1873.
It comes as a surprise to many that the borough got its name from the Pennsylvania Female College, which closed in 1880. After that closure, the previously all-male Ursinus accepted its first female student, Minerva Weinberger.
Collegeville is also home to a number of industrial and business-focused facilities and campuses, including Pfizer and Quest Diagnostics.
